Storm Kujira causes severe human and property losses

(VOV) - Storm Kujira (the first storm that hit Vietnam this year) has caused heavy rains in many northern localities over the last two days, resulting in severe human losses and property damage.

Eleven people were initially reported dead and missing in northern mountainous Son La province. Floods swept away many houses, and subsidiary crops.

The Hai Phong City’s Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Committee reported that one person was injured and three boats were sunk. The storm damaged a large are of subsidiary crops and broke some public utility poles.

Although Kujira made a direct landfall on Quang Ninh province, it caused no human loss thanks to proactive prevention and effective measures.

Heavy rains will continue in the northern region while flash floods and landslides are likely to occur in northern mountainous provinces.
