Special Report: MEA counts down on Wireless Metropolitan on Sukhumvit road

The Metropolitan Electricity Authority has accelerated the project to remove power lines from roadside poles to underground lines on Sukhumvit road in order to create a beautiful scenery in such major business districts of Bangkok.

The MEA, which is a state firm under care of the Ministry of Interior, has carried out the Wireless Metropolitan project in cooperation with varied agencies, including the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission, the National Police, the Association of Telecommunications of Thailand and communication operating firms. 

Power poles and power lines have been already removed from the surfaces of Paholyothin and Payathai roads and are being followed by those along a 12-kilometer stretch on both sides of Sukhumvit road since 15 November 2017. 

Supachai Iamsuwan, a deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, said it was a major policy of the ministry for all sides to create beautiful sceneries of the country. MEA Governor Chaiyong Puapongsakorn confirmed that the wireless project on Sukhumvit was scheduled to be complete and presented as a New Year gift by 10 December 2017. Next year, the MEA plans to continue on the project in other major business districts of Bangkok.

Atcharavadi Chaisuvirat, chief of Klong Toey district, said the project will make it admirable for the people to see the orderliness and beauty of Bangkok's roads. Pinyanan Kaewsa-nga, a bakery shop owner in Sukhumvit area, agreed with the removal of the power lines and poles from the road surface for the sake of orderliness. Besides, it will help promote tourist industry and contribute to the making of Bangkok as Smart Metro of the ASEAN.
