Southern Dong Nai province logs second monkeypox infection
VOV.VN - The health sector of southern Dong Nai province on October 12 reported that it has recorded another local resident infected with monkeypox in Bien Hoa city.
The 33-year-old patient has been diagnosed with monkeypox virus, said local health professionals, adding the source of infection remains unknown.
The patient, a photographer, went to Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital on October 3 for a medical checkup following suspected symptoms of monkeypox, and he later tested positive for the virus.
The photographer said he has neither met any foreigner nor travelled abroad in recent times. However, he had sex with a male friend in Binh Duong province where first monkeypox cases have been documented.
After showing initial suspected symptoms, he has stayed at home for a month and only got into contact with his relatives.
Local authorities said five of his relatives have had close contact with the patient and their health is now under scrutiny at home
The patient is now being put in quarantine for medical surveillance and medical treatment.
This is the second monkeypox infection in Dong Nai and the 17th case recorded in Vietnam.
