Soldiers who died in 1968 TET Offensive laid to rest in Dong Nai

VOV.VN - The remains of 73 heroes who gave their all during the TET Offensive that began 50 years ago on January 31, 1968 arrived at their final resting place in the province of Dong Nai today (July 12).

The funeral for the servicemen takes place at the national cemetery in the ward of Tan Bien in the city of Bien Hoa.

Pictured are the containers holding the remains of the 72 servicemen draped in the national flag. In March, the Army announced they discovered the remains at the Bien Hoa Airport.

The ceremony is attended by the Party's former leadership along with many current high-ranking officials and local leaders.

Above is an image of the wreath laying ceremony. The 72 servicemen fought bravely. After the battle, many who died on both sides were buried in mass graves at the Bien Hoa Airport.

Ngo Thi Thanh from Bac Ninh Province clutches a picture of her father-Ngo Van Bang at the ceremony. He hugged me and promised to come back, but he never returned, she cries.

Former State President Truong Tan Sang appears deeply moved by the ceremony.

Soldiers of the military command carefully place containers of remains into the burial tomb.

A relative of one of the heroic soldiers is overtaken by emotion as she burst into tears shaking and clutching her hands in prayer.

Each container is identified with number.

Family and friends bid their final farewell to the 72 fallen heroes, may they forever rest in peace.
