Slovakia set to recognize Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese community residing in Slovakia is to be recognised as the 14th ethnic minority in the Central European country, a testament to the active role and ability of the Vietnamese community to deeply integrate when studying and working abroad.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Nguyen Tuan made the statement at a recent ceremony held to launch "Vietnam Day" in Bratislava by the Vietnamese Embassy in Slovakia, with the event running in co-ordination with the Vietnamese Association in Slovakia

This represents the first time the event has been held on a large scale in the Slovakian capital, which holds special significance in the context of the Slovak Government preparing to officially recognise the Vietnamese community as the 14th ethnic minority in Slovakia.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vo Phuong, chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Slovakia, expressed his desire to develop an increasingly prosperous, hard-working, knowledgeable, and intellectual community. Indeed, it is the aim to elevate the image of Vietnamese people to new heights as a means of contributing to the rapidly-growing mutual relations that exist between both sides.

Ambassador Tuan highly appreciates the role of the Vietnamese Association in Slovakia, affirming that the Vietnamese community continues to grow stronger.

Most notably, the community has received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for their achievements in mobilising donations to support victims of floods in the Central region. This is along with other efforts such as establishing the Vaccine Fund and providing medical equipment in order to prevent COVID-19.

The Vietnamese diplomat also congratulated the Congress of the Vietnamese Association in Slovakia on the great success and new executive committee, stating his belief that the new executive committee will support the growing and influential Vietnamese community residing in Slovakia.
