Sleeper bus catches fire on expressway, 33 passengers escape safely
VOV.VN - A sleeper bus traveling on Vietnam’s North–South Expressway caught fire in the early hours of May 25 while passing through Ha Tinh province, forcing more than 30 passengers to evacuate.
According to local police, the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. when the sleeper bus, carrying approximately 33 passengers on board, was traveling through Cam Hung commune.
Witnesses said smoke and flames suddenly began emerging from the vehicle while it was moving along the expressway.
The driver and assistant quickly stopped the bus and guided all passengers out of the vehicle safely before notifying emergency services.
Ha Tinh Provincial Police said firefighting and rescue forces immediately dispatched two fire engines and 14 officers to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control and completely extinguish it within about three minutes after deployment.
No casualties were reported in the incident, and many passengers were able to save their luggage and personal belongings.
Competent forces are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
