Shocking images of Sang Tung landslide disaster

VOV.VN - The delivery of relief packages is helping to warm the hearts of people whose lives have been devastated by the historic spate of massive landslides in Sang Tung hamlet, Sin Ho district, the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau.

Landslides triggered by several days of heavy rain, hit the area early in the morning of June 27, burying all the property of the 28 families in Sang Tung hamlet, Ta Ngao village, Sin Ho district.

On the morning of June 28, local authorities cleared a path to the hamlet to provide relief, food and other necessities for local people.

A section of cement road stretching nearly 100m to the hamlet was blocked off due to landslides.

A bridge on the road leading to the hamlet has been destroyed.

The peaceful Sang Tung hamlet is now completely ruined.

The misshapen roofs of buildings carried away in the landslide are visible above the vast mounds of earth.

Even the new cement path has been wiped out.

Not a single house escaped from the devastating landslides after a horrible night.

All of the local people are stunned by the massive landslides,

from adults

to the youth.

After finishing her high school exam, Giang Thi May learned that her hamlet and home no longer exist.

Sang Tung people now have the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch.

The children are still in shock.

Many families carry the few things they could save from disaster.

Many people in flood-hit areas share food with Sang Tung people.

Lai Chau provincial leaders are on the scene to share their sympathies and encourage local people to overcome the difficult situation.

Lai Chau province has mobilized nearly 100 officials and soldiers to coordinate with local forces to support people in moving their property.

Many temporary tents have been set up for shelter to help local people stabilize their lives as quickly as possible.

In addition to initial support, Lai Chau will provide each family with VND30 million to build new houses and will supply each person with three months’ worth of rice and other essential items.
