Several severely injured in Hanoi gas explosion

VOV.VN - Several people were reportedly injured, in a gas explosion that rocked a five-storey restaurant in downtown Hanoi on May 11, according to authorities.

The explosion happened at around 03.00pm at Bonchon restaurant that sells fried chicken on bustling Cua Nam street, said Nguyen An Tuyen, head of the Cua Nam Ward.  

“The bang was so loud that the entire door system of the building burst out with many items on the first and second floors completely damaged,” Tuyen told VOV.

About 5 minutes after the explosion, many employees of the restaurant rushed downstairs and were taken to medical centres, a witness said.

According to Tuyen, at least three people were in critical condition and were transferred to a hospital for intensive treatment.

Firefighters were deployed to put out the blaze. Rescue workers managed to move about 10 refillable gas cylinders out of the building.

Relevant agencies are launching an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
