The Russian experts were among passengers boarding the IO4405 aircraft flying from Russia to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on July 11. They were placed in quarantine as soon as they landed in Vietnam.

They first tested negative for the virus on July 13, but the second tests by the HCM City Pasteur Institute on July 22 showed they had contracted the virus.

The patients were transferred to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial General Hospital for medical surveillance and treatment.

Earlier, 10 Russian experts flying the same flight were confirmed to carry the virus. There were a total of 69 Russian experts boarding that flight.

With the newly detected patients, Vietnam has so far recorded a total of 408 coronavirus cases since the first infection was detected in January. No deaths have been reported.

Of the total figure, 365 patients have fully recovered from the disease, making up 89.5%.

The remaining 43 cases are receiving treatment at different medical centres across the country, with one of them having tested negative once. They are all in stable health condition.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam has gone through 97 days in a row without new locally transmitted infections.
