Russian Academy of Sciences honours leading Vietnamese scientist

The title of Academician was conferred on Professor Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) at a ceremony held by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) on November 25.

The title was presented by Prof. Acad. Gennedy Krasnikov, President of RAS.

With this recognition, Vietnam now has four scientists honoured as RAS academicians. Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS). In RAS’s May election of foreign academicians, he was one of four scientists chosen in the Biology division.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minh noted that the honour reflects not only personal recognition but also the achievements of VAST. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two academies will continue to expand.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi stressed that the recognition highlights the rising international standing of Vietnamese science and demonstrates the Russian scientific community’s appreciation for Vietnam’s research capabilities. It also affirms science and technology as a solid pillar of the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, Minh noted that 50 years of VAST–RAS cooperation show the growing maturity of Vietnamese science. Vietnamese researchers have gradually shifted from learning from Russian experts to working as equal partners, especially in marine research, physics, chemistry and materials science.
