River embankment collapse kills four in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - A concrete section of a river embankment in Lac My village, Dak Lak province, suddenly collapsed on January 2, killing four people who were sheltering from the rain underneath.
According to Vo Ba Dat, chairman of the Son Thanh Commune People’s Committee, the incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. The collapse took place along the section that had previously been weakened by landslides caused by floods in November 2025.
The victims - two married couples aged between 62 and 64 – were on their way to plant acacia trees when heavy rain forced them to take shelter under a concrete embankment along the river.
The concrete slab suddenly gave way, collapsing onto the four people below and burying them under debris.
Rescue teams and local residents rushed to the scene, but it took nearly an hour to recover the victims. All four were pronounced dead at the site, authorities said.
Police are conducting an investigation and forensic examinations. The bodies will be returned to the families for burial after procedures are completed.
