Requiem held for anti-US war martyrs

A requiem for young volunteer workers who laid down their lives during the anti-US war was held at the newly-inaugurated temple at Truong Bon historic site in central Nghe An province on July 14.

More than 1,000 monks and nuns of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha prayed for martyrs’ souls and for the country’s peace and all people’s prosperity.

Thousands of young volunteers sacrificed their lives to ensure smooth traffic on the artery road running through Truong Bon to supply material and human resources from the north to southern battlefields.

Earlier the same day, the Truong Bon temple was officially inaugurated, which is dedicated to 13 members of the Volunteer Youth force who were killed on the early morning of October 31, 1968, just hours before the US officially declared an end to the bombing of northern Vietnam.

The event was held to express gratitude to those who dedicated themselves to national liberation on the occasion of the 66th Day of War Invalids and Martyrs.
