Remains of US servicemen repatriated
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) has handed over the remains of a servicemen from the United States who went missing in action during the conflict in Vietnam to his country of origin.
The handover ceremony took place in the central city of Da Nang on December 14 and saw the participation of representatives from the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
The two sets of remains were found by joint search teams during the 144th and 145th Joint Field Activities which took place from July to December.
The remains were carefully examined by Vietnamese forensic specialists in Da Nang, with the specialists concluding that they might be associated with US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam, they therefore recommended that the remains be brought to Hawai in the US for further verification.
The search for remains of US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam represents an ongoing humanitarian activity between the Vietnamese and US Governments. This marks the 157th handover of remains of US missing servicemen since 1973.
