Red-shanked douc langurs discovered in Thua Thien-Hue

About 70 red-shanked douc langurs were found in Bac Hai Van forest, Phu Loc district, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

According to Director of the forest’s management board Tran Van Loc, t he red-shanked langur (Pygathrix nemaeus) is an endangered primate, adding that his agency is devising measures to protect the animals.

Covering nearly 10,500 ha and stretching from Phuoc Tuong pass to Hai Van pass, Bac Hai Van forest is home to various flora and fauna species.

Vietnam is home to 26 primate species, five of them listed among the world’s 25 most endangered primate species.
