Recycling Day raises awareness of ‘3Rs’ in schools

The sixth annual Waste Recycling Day was held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 14 in a bid to raise public awareness of the 3Rs - reducing, reusing and recycling - in schools.

Organised by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the event attracted thousands of students and young people from every corner of the city.

An array of activities were held during the day, including guiding people how to classify solid waste and make paper bags to replace plastic ones, an exhibition of environmentally friendly recycling technologies and products, an exchange of second-hand goods, and a contest on making clothes from waste materials.

Especially, an area where hazardous household and recyclable waste is collected drew much attention with harmful waste being exchanged with gifts.

According to organisers, the annual event aims to encourage schools and pupils to adopt the 3Rs in schools to save natural resources and protect the environment.

It also draws public participation in realising a strategy to turn HCM City into an environmentally friendly and sustainably developed city by 2020.
