Rare masked palm civets released into protected forest in Ha Tinh

VOV.VN - Vu Quang National Park in central Ha Tinh province has collaborated with the Centre for Rescue, Conservation and Creature Development under Cuc Phuong National Park and the wildlife NGO Save Vietnam’s Wildlife (SVW) to return 58 masked palm civets to their natural habitat.

According to Thai Canh Toan, deputy director of Vu Quang National Park, the masked palm civet (Paguma larvata) is a rare and valuable species listed under Group IIB of Vietnam’s Red List, meaning it is classified as endangered or rare.

All 58 animals had undergone specialised care and rehabilitation at SVW. After comprehensive health assessments, they were released into a designated protected area suitable for their ecological needs, where they will be closely monitored by forest rangers.

Toan noted that the release not only contributes to restoring wild populations of the species but also underscores the joint commitment of the participating organisations to biodiversity conservation.
