Quang Tri removes unexploded ordnance

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the organisation Peace Trees in central Quang Tri province removed 114 explosive devices on April 22.

They included mortar and artillery shells, bombs and landmines left over in Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district, during the war.

So far this year the EOD team has removed nearly 30,000 pieces of UXO on 35,000 square metres of land for farming.

Quang Tri, as the hardest-hit province in war time, still has nearly 400,000 hectares of land not yet freed of explosive ordnance. It can clear only 2,300-2,500 hectares for farming a year.
