Public votes for underground metro station by Hoan Kiem Lake
About 90% of survey respondents want an underground metro station near Hoan Kiem Lake in the Old Quarter, according to a representative of the Hanoi Metro Railway Management Board.
The survey, which is held from March 9 until the end of this month, will collect ideas from the public for the underground metro station C9, which is part of metro line No.2 connecting South Thang Long in the northwest and Tran Hung Dao Street in the south of the capital.
Conducted by Hoan Kiem Lake, the survey has so far attracted respondents, of whom 88% were Vietnamese and 12% international tourists. 40% are residents living close to the planned station.
According to the plan, C9 station would be located under the current flower garden by Hoan Kiem Lake’s Dinh Tien Hoang Street with four gates, three storeys including a concourse level, a technical area, and a platform level.
According to the board, Metro Line No.2 will be 11.5 kilometres long with 10 stations and a 17.5 - hectare depot in Xuan Dinh ward. The metro line would be connected to Metro Line No.1 of Ngoc Hoi-Nhu Quynh at C8 station on Hang Dau Street and with Metro Line No.3 of Nhon-Hoang Mai at station C10 on Hang Bai Street.
The board also informed that the investment capital of VND34.690 trillion (US$1.5 billion) was allocated from the Japanese government’s official development assistance and the reciprocal capital is from the Vietnamese state budget.
