Promoting gender equality in the new normal
VOV.VN - The importance of promoting equal values and the role of women within the national leadership apparatus were discussed at a workshop titled “Lead the Chance in the New Normal” held on March 15 in Hanoi.
The event, which was jointly held by the Vietnam Business Coalition for Women's Empowerment (VBCWE) and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD), provided an ideal venue to bring the local business community together with domestic and international organisations.
Their primary goal was to discuss solutions for sustainable development throughout the period of fluctuations from the perspective of gender equality in the workplace.
Nguyen Quang Vinh, general secretary of VCCI and executive vice president of VBCSD, welcomed the co-operation initiative between VBCSD and VBCWE as it serves to demonstrate the strategic vision of both organisations in supporting the domestic business community.
In addition, their collaboration efforts also help to improve the resilience of local firms whilst boosting their competitiveness for better integration by promoting gender equality.
Vinh has advised enterprises to alter their mindset and consider gender equality as one of the key leverages behind achieving long-term growth, especially in the context of women accounting for a high proportion of workforce in the labour market.
Australian Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Barnes emphasized that companies with a diverse leadership team and strong commitments to achieving gender in the workplace must demonstrate their better adaptability to innovation, thereby creating become more productive and achieving a greater profit.
Le Thanh Hang, CEO of VBCWE, introduced the gender equality assessment, results and strategies (GEAR) tool which helps businesses gain greater insights into issues, opportunities, and strengths in terms of their gender equality strategies in the workplace. This serves to contribute to improving business performance, and enjoy a strong recovery.
During the seminar, speakers discussed different factors in helping businesses to govern effectively and sustainably moving into the new normal, especially in relation to increasing the role of women in leadership.
During the event, VBCWE and VBCSD signed a co-operation agreement during the event, affirming their commitment to work together on developing the partnership between the two organizations for the purpose of promoting gender equality and increasing women's empowerment in the Vietnamese business community.
