Promoting friendly cooperative relations between Vietnam and RoK

VOV.VN - A high-level delegation of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, led by Vice Chairman Nguyen Huu Dung, had a working visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from June 4-6 to promote friendly cooperative relations between Vietnam and the RoK and to inquire into Vietnamese expatriates’ life in their host country.

Joining the working group was Dr. Tran Hai Linh, member of the VFF Central Committee, and chairman of the Vietnam - Korea Businessmen and Investment Association (VKBIA).

During the visit, the delegation had meetings with the Korean Economic, Social and Labor Council (ESLC) on the Cooperation Program for the period 2024-2029 and the Chairman of the Gyeonggido Provincial Council, visited the Gyeonggido Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA), and met representatives of Vietnamese nationals living, studying and working in the RoK.

At the meeting with the ESLC, the two sides agreed that the two organizations are members of the International Association of Socio-Economic Councils and equivalent organizations (AICESIS), so attending the annual General Meeting is both the right and responsibility of each party. The expansion of bilateral cooperation between the VFF and the ESLC contributes to strengthening the connection of AICESIS member organizations.

They agreed to enhance understanding and learning about the activities of the two agencies and about other social organizations; and exchange experiences related to the operation and methods of social dialogue, through reciprocal visits for their officials and administrative staff, in order to bring practical benefits to the people of the two countries, and to contribute to peace, stability and cooperation in Asia and the rest of the world.

On behalf of the VFF Central Committee, Dung proposed that the ESLC continue to pay attention to promoting relevant Korean agencies and businesses to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, especially in economics, investment, labour, and training of highly skilled human resources. He respectfully invited a ESLC delegation to visit and work in Vietnam in September 2024.

Receiving the VFF Central Committee delegation at the headquarters of the Gyeongido Provincial Council, Yeom Jong-hyun, chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council emphasized that economic, trade and investment cooperation and people-to-people exchanges are the major pillars of the relationship between the RoK and Vietnam.

He highly appreciated the VKBIA’s role in arranging exchanges between the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and the VFF Central Committee, and suggested that the VKBIA work closely with Gyeonggi Provincial Council members to further promote local corporations and companies to invest, cooperate and develop business with Vietnam.

Dung for his part proposed that Gyeonggi further ramp up cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economics, investment, trade, science and high technology, labour, and vocational education and training, especially highly skilled labour for Vietnamese workers. He also proposed that the local council provide continued care and support for Vietnamese expatriates, as well as Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families in the locality.

The VFF Central Committee also visited and worked with leaders of the Gyeonggido Business and Science Accelerator (GBSA) and made a field visit to Pangyo High-Tech Valley.

Currently the GBSA focuses on many global corporations and companies in the field of high technology and advanced technology such as semiconductor technology, microchips, biotechnology, AI, robotics, smart manufacturing technology, environmental technology, and green technology.

The GBSA is a leading organization dedicated to supporting the growth and innovation of startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the regional area. It operates many facilities, including startup incubators, biotech incubators and advanced technology research centers, attracting many high-quality, highly skilled human resources. Statistics show the total revenue from GBSA companies has kept increasing in recent years, reaching US$122 billion in 2022 alone.

GBSA leaders hoped to further enhance cooperation and scientific and technological development with Vietnam. They also requested that the VKBIA continue to connect, exchange, support and cooperate with GBSA members to enhance the effectiveness of their cooperation.

During the visit, the VFF Central Committee delegation called at the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK, and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the Rok. At the meeting, Dung noted that Vietnam – RoK relations have developed strongly and are at the best stage, with significant contributions from overseas community.
