President highlights success of Buddhist Sangha congress

VOV.VN - President Tran Dai Quang has hailed the success of the 8th National Congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, saying that the Congress is a major religious event of Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries and followers.

Meeting in Hanoi on November 23 with representatives of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of the 2017-2022 term, the State leader said its success shows the Party, State, and relevant agencies’ attention to Vietnam Buddhism.

The Party, State and people have always treasured and greatly valued contributions of the VBS and its monks, nuns and followers to the national great unity bloc and efforts for national construction.

The Party and State have over the past years consistently pursued the policy of respecting and safeguarding the right to belief and religion of people while offering conditions for religions to exercise their faith practices in line with law and preserve and promote their good values, he said.

“I hope that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, with its 2,000 years tradition of accompanying the nation, will develop further and will continue to mobilize Buddhist dignitaries and followers at home and overseas to unite with people and participate in social movements to spur national growth," he said.
