Police hunt suspects of bank robbery in Gia Lai

VOV.VN - Police are searching for two suspects following a bank robbery at a Vietcombank branch in Gia Lai province, central Vietnam, on January 19.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at the headquarters of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), Gia Lai branch, located on Truong Chinh Street in Hoi Phu Ward.

According to initial information from law enforcement agencies, between 3:28- 4:30 p.m., two masked men wearing ride-hailing driver uniforms entered the bank, carrying black objects believed to be handguns. The suspects threatened bank staff, forced people in the transaction area to leave, seized an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The robbery lasted only a short time but caused panic among employees and customers. No casualties were reported.

Immediately after the incident, the Gia Lai provincial police launched an investigation, sealed off the scene, collected witness statements and reviewed security camera footage.

Authorities also deployed forces to conduct searches along key transport routes and instructed police units in all 135 communes and wards across the province to intensify patrols and coordinate efforts to track down the suspects.

Vietcombank’s Gia Lai branch is cooperating closely with investigators while reviewing and strengthening security measures to ensure safety in banking operations.
