Police bust military-grade weapons trafficking ring in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Police in northern Phu Tho province said on February 4 that they had uncovered a trafficking ring involving military-grade homemade firearms, seizing 100 compressed-air gun sets from a warehouse rented by a Chinese national in northern Lang Son province.
Authorities said the weapons were stored by Yang Yifeng, a Chinese citizen, and were later determined to be homemade guns with lethality and functions comparable to military weapons.
Investigators have launched criminal proceedings and charged five individuals - four Vietnamese nationals and one Chinese - with the illegal possession, trafficking and use of military-grade weapons.
According to investigators, the Vietnamese suspects used social media platforms, particularly TikTok, to advertise and sell the guns. The weapons were falsely marketed as toilet unclogging tools in an attempt to evade law enforcement and mislead buyers.
Police said the firearms were designed to closely resemble real guns, featuring triggers, barrels, sights and air-compression systems, and fired metal pellets. Tests showed the weapons could fire projectiles over distances of 20 to 30 meters, posing a serious risk of injury.
The case remains under further investigation.
