Poisons kill six Vietnamese in Bangkok hotel, say Thai police
VOV.VN - The Thai police held a press briefing on July 17 to announce the preliminary cause of the death of six Vietnamese at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok one day earlier.
Due to debt disputes, one of the six victims had poisoned the remaining five people, said the police at the press briefing.
The police also identified the seventh person in the incident, who was believed to have booked a room with the six victims. However, this person left Thailand and returned to Vietnam on July 10.
Four Vietnamese nationals and two Vietnamese individuals with US nationality were found dead at Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel in Ratchaprasong shopping district in Pathum Wan district by hotel maids.
The police examined the scene and initially said there were no signs that the victims had been robbed or assaulted before they died.
Pol Maj Gen Theeradet Thumsuthee, investigative commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said authorities were exploring the possibility that the victims had been poisoned as there were coffee and tea in the room.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin also met with Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel on July 16 evening to talk about the case.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand is working with local competent authorities to verify the case and carry out necessary citizen protection measures.
