PM requests urgent response measures as Yagi heads towards Northern Vietnam

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just issued an official dispatch, directing relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to urgently implement measures to respond to tropical storm Yagi that moved into the East Sea on September 3 and is heading towards Northern Vietnam.

The tropical storm, the third of its kind to hit the East Sea this year, is moving quickly towards the Hainan Island (China) and the Gulf of Tonkin, packing winds of more than 110kph near its centre.

Yagi is forecast to increase its category into a super typhoon in the couple of days, with winds reaching more than 150kph near its centre.

Given its movement trajectory, it’s highly likely that Yagi will directly impact the waters and mainland areas of Northern and North-Central Vietnam.

To proactively respond to the storm and possible flooding to be caused subsequently, the Prime Minister instructed relevant ministries, sectors and 24 provinces and cities to monitor Yagi’s developments and work out timely response plans.

He reminded that the heads of the provinces and cities proactively provide timely information and guidance to the public on how to respond to the storm and flooding.

The local leaders were also required to develop plans to ensure the safety of residents and minimize damage to property at sea, on islands, along the coast, on land, and in mountainous areas.

The Government leader assigned the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to closely monitor the storm and flooding situation, and to coordinate with relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to promptly implement measures to ensure the safety of dykes, reservoirs, and to protect agricultural production and aquaculture.

The PM’s official dispatch was sent to the administrations of 24 centrally run provinces and cities, namely Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, and Hoa Binh.
