PM requests response plans in place as typhoon Trami heads for central region
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked relevant ministries, agencies and localities, especially those in the central region, to work out response plans to cope with typhoon Trami that entered the East on October 24 and is heading for the mainland of Vietnam.
In an urgent telegram dated October 24, the PM noted that Trami is forecast to have strong intensity and very complex developments after moving into the East Sea, with its path and wind strength likely to change due to the influence of multiple weather patterns over the sea.
He asked the designated agencies and localities to take necessary storm prevention and control measures, including calling in fishing vessels to storm shelters, reinforcing public and residential works, and evacuating people from flood and landslide prone areas.
The ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of lives and minimize property damage for the people, reads the telegram.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at around 04:00p.m. on October 24, Typhoon Trami was located over the eastern waters of the northern part of the East Sea, packing winds of 75-88kph near its centre.
In the next 24 to 72 hours, Trami is anticipated to move westward and increase force before slowing down and changing its course to south and south-west.
Before moving into the East Sea, Trami battered the Philippines, killing at least 24 people. More than 2 million people have been affected by the typhoon, with 75,400 villagers displaced to safe shelters.
