Plan for electric charging station systems in Ho Chi Minh City needed
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City must devise a specific plan and standards for electric charging station systems moving forward, heard a workshop held on April 11 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The event was jointly held by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Bui Hoa An, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, said that the municipal administration is in the process of speeding up the conversion of all vehicles and transportation infrastructure into using electricity and green energy, with the ultimate aim of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.
He revealed that the southern city is currently implementing a project aimed at enhancing public passenger transportation with priority being given to using clean and environmentally friendly fuels in accordance with the development trends of countries around the world.
He underscored the importance of drawing up a scheme for electric charging station systems as the city currently does not have the necessary standards for these stations.
For his part, Patrick Haverman, deputy resident representative of the UNDP in Vietnam, said Ho Chi Minh City plays an important transportation hub in the nation and Southeast Asia, adding that the number of personal vehicles account for 90% of people's travel needs, thereby causing high emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants to the city.
He also emphasised the need to develop charging station infrastructure in order to accelerate the development of electric vehicles, noting that there should be proper management policies which can attract the participation of the private sector in building charging station infrastructure in order to fulfill the plan.
