Photo exhibition portrays 17 faces of actions on sustainable development
VOV.VN - A photo exhibition showcasing 17 faces acting for the cause of sustainable development in Vietnam opened at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi on October 20.
The event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG), and the Association of Swiss Women and Empowerment (ASWE), aims to introduce outstanding faces who have contributed to socio-economic development and promoted the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang expressed hope that the exhibition would convey a message of the country’s endeavour to promote gender equality and sustainable development, affirming the desire to strengthen cooperation and dialogue with international partners in these fields both bilaterally and multilaterally.
She also applauded the “17 Faces of Action” initiative, launched by Tatiana Valovaya, director-general of the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG), and the ASWE, which was effectively undertaken in Vietnam by the UN and competent Vietnamese agencies in order to promote gender equality as well as Vietnamese women’s role in society.
The opening of the exhibition is of great significance as it coincides with Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20 and UN Day on October 24. This is an opportunity to honour and encourage Vietnamese women to actively contribute to social development and fulfilment of the SDGs, she added.
In her speech, UNOG chief Valovaya said the exhibition is a vivid reflection of the pioneering role of women in implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Vietnam. She expressed her belief that the country would continue to make positive and effective contributions to promoting gender equality within the international community.
Vietnam joined the “17 Faces of Action” initiative when the Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, attended the 52nd regular session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva last April.
The initiative comprises a series of exhibitions on women's action faces contributing to the SDGs in 17 countries around the world and a joint exhibition in Geneva in 2024.
The Vietnam exhibition is scheduled to last through to October 24.
