Petrotimes suspended, editor-in-chief sacked
The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) has issued a decision suspending Petrotimes, the organ of the Vietnam Petroleum Association, for three months and revoking the press card of its editor-in-chief, Nguyen Nhu Phong.
The newspaper has been temporarily discontinued for publishing articles that did not follow the principles stipulated in a licence issued by the MIC, while some of its other articles were obtained from unverified sources, according to the MIC decision.
Such articles were incorrect, represented a lack of professionalism and had a negative impact on public opinion, the decision said.
Meanwhile, Phong was dismissed as head of Petrotimes and had his press card withdrawn.
After a temporary ban of three months, the MIC will review the case and decide whether to re-license the newspaper in line with the law on the press.
