People with disabilities helped to cope with climate change
A workshop on enhancing vulnerable groups’ capacity of disaster risk management and climate change adaptation was held by the Association for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the central province of Quang Binh on September 21.
The association has carried out activities to help local communities cope with climate change and mitigate natural disaster impacts since 2010, with a focus on people with disabilities.
A project, implemented for nearly two years from 2014–2016, has given people with disabilities training in skills to cope with emergencies, while local officials were also trained in rescue and responding to natural disasters.
In addition, the project has helped change local authorities’ understanding about the involvement of people with disabilities in disaster risk reduction and strengthened cooperation between local agencies in disaster prevention.
