Oxford/AstraZeneca delivers an additional 580,000 doses to Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) on July 9 received an additional 580,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca.

This is the third batch VNVC has received so far this year under a 30-million dose contract the Vietnamese company signed with the manufacturer in November 2020.

Ngo Tri Dung, VNVC director, said the batch will be handed over to the Ministry of Health to vaccinate people in COVID-19 hit areas in Vietnam.

The government recently decided to re-purchase 30 million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine under the contract that VNVC inked with the vaccine manufacturer, to support the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

VNVC has so far imported and handed over 985,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to the Ministry of Health.

Vietnam has since the beginning of this year received nearly 5.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine under the purchase contract, through the COVAX Facility and through bilateral donation between governments.

Nitin Kapoor, chairman and general director of AstraZeneca Vietnam, voiced the manufacturer’s commitment to further collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organisation (WHO), UN Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and VNVC to deliver millions of doses in the coming months.

To date nearly four million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered nationwide.
