OVs join hands with Czech Republic to combat COVID-19

VOV.VN - Members of the Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) community residing in Usti nad Labem region in the Czech Republic have donated gifts worth approximately CZK200,000, equivalent to more than US$9,000, to medical workers from the cities of Chomutov and Kadan.

The gifts donated to the workers include confectionery, coffee, water, and shopping vouchers, among other items.

Pham The Quang, vice president of the Vietnamese People Chapter in Chomutov city, said the donation aims to show gratitude to local medical workers who have directly confronted risks relating to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in order to aid patients and prevent the spread of the pandemic over the past year.

Most notably, medical staff have been relentless in providing care for patients, including Vietnamese citizens, he added.

The region’s Vietnamese community has been widely praised for their contributions to the Central European nation. At the outset of 2020, the community donated more than CZK252,000 in an effort to support people with disabilities whilst upgrading the fire-fighting system at sponsorship centres for people with disabilities in Chomutov. This was done following a blaze which broke out at a sponsorship centre that killed eight people and injured 30 others.

This comes after the local Vietnamese community joined hands with relevant Czech authorities to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through sewing face masks and providing food for frontline workers, along with mobilizing roughly CZK300,000 in order to purchase ventilators for Maysaryk hospital.
