OVs in RoK raise objection to China’s violations in East Sea
VOV.VN - Overseas Vietnamese (OVs) in the Republic of Korea on April 3 gathered in front of Busan Station near China Consulate General to stage a peaceful demonstration against China’s provocative actions in the East Sea.
The demonstrators wearing red-T shirt carried flags and banners. |
They sang national anthem and chanted the slogan "Hoang Sa - Truong Sa belong to Vietnam", "China, stop militarisation in the East Vietnam Sea”. |
The peaceful demonstration shows Vietnamese people’s solidarity to protest China’s military acts in violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty. |
A joint declaration sent by the OV Community to the China Embassy and Consulate General pointed out China’s serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty, peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea and threats to maritime and aviation security and safety. |
The statement also stressed that what China has done run counter to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and 2002 ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). |
OVs raised funds “For the sovereignty over the seas and islands of Vietnam”. |
This is the second time the OV community in the RoK held peaceful demonstrations to oppose China’s militarisation in the East Sea. |
Earlier in May 2014, they organized three demonstrations in Seoul, Busan and Gwangju to protest China’s illegal deployment of oil rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 in the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam. |
