Over 5,600 sea turtle hatchlings released into the sea at Con Dao National Park
VOV.VN - More than 5,600 sea turtle hatchlings have been released into the sea at Con Dao National Park as marine conservation efforts continue to see positive results in early 2026.
The park’s management board said on April 28 that measures to protect and restore marine resources are being carried out in a coordinated manner, including monitoring coral reefs and seagrass beds, restoring mangrove forests and restocking aquatic resources.
Sea turtle conservation remains a key focus. Between December 10, 2025 and March 9, 2026, park staff safely relocated 64 nests containing 5,687 eggs to incubation facilities. A total of 108 nests hatched, and more than 5,600 hatchlings were released into the sea. Thirteen adult turtles were also tagged for monitoring to support research and conservation.
A programme to restore nesting beaches in the Dat Doc area has been implemented, with multiple nests relocated, successfully incubated and hatchlings released under controlled conditions. Beach clean-up, sand replenishment and improvements to incubation facilities have also been maintained to raise hatching rates.
At the same time, a 2026 plan to collect and handle marine plastic waste at coastal and eco-tourism sites is under way, helping to reduce pollution and protect marine habitats, including those of sea turtles.
In the coming period, the park will continue to intensify monitoring of marine ecosystems, restore coral reefs and seagrass beds, step up turtle rescue efforts and expand cooperation programmes with domestic and international partners, including the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
These efforts aim to ensure the sustainable conservation of Con Dao’s marine ecosystems and preserve one of Vietnam’s most important areas of marine biodiversity.
