Over 4,000 bridges to be built for ethnic minorities by 2020

Around 4,000 bridges will be built to facilitate the travel and livelihoods of ethnic minority groups across the country by 2020 as part of the second phase of a Government programme.
The programme, worth nearly VND8,340 billion (US$337 million), is being implemented in 5,237 communes in 450 districts across 50 provinces and cities from 2014-2020.
Priorities have been given to 63 disadvantaged districts in accordance with Government Decree No. 30a/2008/NQ-CP issued in 2008.
In the first phase from 2014-2015, 186 bridges were built in 28 mountainous provinces throughout the nation, costing the State budget VND931.7 billion (US$41 million).
Phase 2 will be subsidised by official development assistance (ODA), local budgets and social resources.
