Over 40 tigers died suspected of being infected with A/H5N1 flu

VOV.VN - More than 40 tigers living at the Mango Garden Eco-Resort in Bien Hoa city in the southern province of Dong Nai and at My Quynh Zoo in the Mekong Delta of Long An have been confirmed dead over the past month.

According a representative of the Mango Garden Eco-Resort, roughly 20 tigers and one leopard have died due to unidentified reasons. Meanwhile, the same situation also occurred at My Quynh Zoo as 27 tigers and three lions also died between September 8 and September 16.

Veterinary sub Department of Region VI has revealed that the samples taken from the dead tigers came back positive for A/H5N1.

This comes after staff at the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station in Bien Hoa city also took samples of two random death tigers at the Mango Garden Eco-Resort. Initial diagnosis concluded that the death was due to pneumonia. Local authorities immediately disinfected barns and moved to isolate other animals to prevent a further spread of the disease.

The cause of the mass death is currently under further investigation.
