Over 3,100 smuggling, counterfeit cases handled in month-long crackdown

VOV.VN - Market surveillance teams nationwide carried out 3,891 inspections between May 15 and June 15, detecting 3,114 violations related to smuggling and counterfeit goods. The campaign resulted in more than VND63 billion in fines.

The operation was conducted under Prime Minister’s Official Dispatch No. 65, which calls for continued efforts to strengthen the crackdown on smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit products, and intellectual property infringements.

Violations involving counterfeit goods and IP infringement accounted for the largest share, with 1,580 cases, about 52% of the total. Smuggling made up the second largest category, with 648 cases, or over 21%.

Several major cases were detected and swiftly handled during the campaign. On May 20, more than 500 counterfeit items bearing high-end brand names were seized in downtown Da Nang. Nine days later, thousands of fake goods from well-known brands were confiscated at the Saigon Square shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City.

On June 9, inspections at four cosmetic stores in Hanoi uncovered 3,500 smuggled items of unknown origin.

Medicines and dietary supplements were also a focus of the drive. Since 2021, authorities have handled nearly 1,000 violations involving such products, including 783 cases related to milk and dairy-based supplements.
