Over 1,500 students compete in National Round of World Youth Chemistry Talent Olympiad
VOV.VN - The National Round of the World Youth Chemistry Talent Olympiad 2026 (WYCTO 2026) was held across Vietnam, attracting 1,531 contestants from provinces and cities nationwide.
The competition took place simultaneously at six testing centers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, and Bac Ninh. Contestants competed across three age- and curriculum-tailored divisions: Junior (Grades 6-7), Intermediate (Grades 8-9), and Senior (Grades 10-12).
Designed to identify and nurture young talents in chemistry in Vietnam and member nations, the olympiad moves beyond rote knowledge testing. The examination focuses on conceptual thinking, quantitative reasoning, problem-solving, and practical applications of chemistry, while linking the discipline to real-world contexts, technology, biomedical science, environmental studies, and modern STEM fields.
Contestants meeting qualification criteria from the National Round will advance to the International Round, scheduled for October 22-25, 2026, in Vietnam’s northern province of Ninh Binh.
The international event is expected to gather student delegations from 8 to 10 countries and territories, thus creating an international academic exchange platform for young chemistry enthusiasts.
