Over 1 million doses of Cuban-donated Abdala vaccine en route to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Cuba has donated 1.05 million doses of its Abdala COVID-19 vaccine to Vietnam that are on board President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s plane due to arrive in Hanoi on September 25 evening.

The shipment includes 900,000 doses delivered by the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), which develops and manufactures the Abdala vaccine.

The remaining 150,000 doses were supported by the Cuban Ministry of National Defence.

The vaccines were uploaded onto a special plane that brings home President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his entourage after their working trip to Cuba and the United States from September 18-25.

The plane is scheduled to arrive in Hanoi on September 25 evening.

Vietnam has signed two contracts to purchase 10 million doses of the Abdala vaccine for adults and five million doses of the Soberana vaccine for children from Cuba during President Phuc’s visit to Cuba from September 18-20.

Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan said that Vietnam is negotiating to purchase an additional five million doses of the Soberana vaccine with the Cuban partner.
