Outbreak of Africa swine fever detected in Son La

VOV.VN - The Africa swine fever (ASF) epidemic has been discovered in Huoi Ai hamlet in Muong E commune, Thuan Chau district in the northern province of Son La, according to Son La department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.

Thuan Chau borders the locality of Tuan Giao district, in Dien Bien province, which itself recently reported an outbreak of ASF .

Signs of the disease were first discovered when a household in Huoi Ai hamlet in Thuan Chau district detected a pig which had died of unknown causes and reported the matter to the local authorities on March 11.

Samples were taken from the pig farm and later tested positive for the ASF virus. Notably, swathes of pigs from a number of nearby households in the hamlet were also discovered to be sick.

Following the incident, representatives from local authorities went to Huoi Ai hamlet to inspect the scene and request that households in the region take drastic measures to urgently fight the epidemic
