One more patient dies in medical incident in Hoa Binh

Nguyen Thi Bich Nguyen, who was among 18 patient having suspected anaphylactic shock during their kidney dialysis at the General Hospital of Hoa Binh province, died on early June 4.
The incident took place on May 29. Once the deaths of seven people were reported, the provincial General Hospital turned off its dialysis machines and transferred the living patients to Hoa Binh city’s General Hospital and Hanoi-based Bach Mai hospital for emergency treatment.
Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the Health Ministry’s Medical Examination and Treatment Department, led a working group to Hoa Binh the same day to deal with the incident. Four doctors from Bach Mai hospital also went to the province to deliver assistance.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam requested the Ministry of Health, the Department of Health and General Hospital of Hoa Binh province and Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital to mobilise all available resources to save these patients.
At a working session with the provincial authorities and the hospital’s medical staff on May 31, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien asked the Hoa Binh Health Department to clarify the cause of the case.
The Vietnam Red Cross VRC has presented a total of VND86.5 million (US$3,760) to families of the dead and living patients.
