One dead and six injured as whirlwinds damage over 170 houses in Bac Lieu

VOV.VN - Following the passing of typhoon Pabuk, whirlwinds have accompanied widespread heavy rain which have destroyed homes and crops, greatly affecting the daily lives of residents in the southern province of Bac Lieu. 

According to statistics, as of the afternoon of January 4, as many as 171 houses in the area had suffered some form of damage. In total, 54 houses collapsed and 117 houses were left without roofs as a result of the passing whirlwinds. More than 6,500 hectares of rice and subsidiary crops were left submerged by floodwaters.

Currently, four fishing vessels with 41 fishermen onboard has been forced to remain anchored in Malaysia and Indonesia to shelter from the storm. A patrol vessel coded KN269 encountered difficulties in towing the fishing vessel BL93222TS to Con Dao island due to high waves at sea.

Meanwhile, whirlwinds and high waves hit the fishing vessel BL93054TS on the morning of January 4, leaving a fisherman who resided in Ganh Hao town, Dong Hai district, dead. Six people were also injured as a house collapsed and trees fell down across in the locality.
