OCHA provides US$2 million for Vietnam after typhoon Yagi
VOV.VN - The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on September 20 that it had provided US$2 million in order to help Vietnam to overcome the consequences of super typhoon Yagi.
According to details provided by the OCHA, Joyce Msuya, acting emergency relief coordinator, has allocated US$2 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) to kickstart the humanitarian response in support of the Government's efforts.
The funding will go to the International Organization for Migration, the UN Development Programme, and UNICEF as part of efforts to meet immediate life-saving needs in the most affected provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai, the OCHA revealed on its official website.
The office also noted that the CERF-funded response will focus on emergency shelter and water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance primarily focusing on communities with high levels of pre-existing vulnerabilities in a bid to meet the needs of the people most affected by this disaster.
