Nine businesses given awards for gender equality and women empowerment
VOV.VN - A total of nine Vietnamese enterprises have been granted the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) at a national level during an awards ceremony held on November 26 in Hanoi.
Of the enterprises to receive recognition, the top five winners will represent the nation as they attend the UN Women Asia and Pacific WEPs Awards this coming December.
Upon addressing the awards ceremony, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, chairwoman of Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC), emphasized that a new generation of job opportunities for women and men in the community and workplace are expected to unlock their full potential and various strengths. Indeed, this will eventually lay the foundation for achieving prosperity and sustainable development for each nation and every business.
Minh noted that gender equality makes up one of the five sustainable development goals of the UN and is widely regarded as a solution in order to fulfill other goals.
Elisa Fernandez Saenz, chief representative of UN Women in Vietnam, said this year marks an important milestone for the WEPs as they celebrate their 10th anniversary. The timing coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the implementation of the gender equality law in relation to the business community through the application of WEPs.
To mark the occasion, UN Women WeEmpowerAsia is organising the WEPs Awards in the Asia-Pacific in order to recognise the efforts put in by companies with regard to the implementation of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The WEPs Awards will also recognise the efforts of the leadership and companies in order to promote gender equality among employees, their customers, and their partners, while also inspiring other companies and leaders to come together in having a broader impact, Saenz stressed.
