Nghe An to host special events marking World Environment Day
VOV.VN - Nghe An province in central Vietnam will host a string of events from June 4-6 to mark World Environment Day, World Oceans Day, Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and the Month of Action for the Environment, with activities aimed at promoting green development and climate action.
The information was announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on June 1 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Nghe An provincial People's Committee and related agencies.
At the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Dang Ngoc Diep said climate change, environmental pollution and the depletion of natural resources have become increasingly urgent global challenges, making it increasingly important to promote community responsibility, green lifestyles and practical action for the environment.
The programme is designed to encourage a shift from awareness to action and support Vietnam’s goals of green growth, a circular economy and net-zero emissions, he added.
It will feature a range of large-scale activities combining policy discussions, communications initiatives, cultural performances and community engagement. Highlights include the Blue Ocean Economy, Sustainable Agriculture and Environment Exhibition; the National Environment and Climate Forum; a national workshop on policies for sustainable marine economic development; and an art programme titled “Vietnam’s Seas: A Journey Through Green Spaces”.
A key focus of the National Environment and Climate Forum will be turning policy commitments into practical action, while providing a platform for ministries, sectors, localities, experts, scientists, businesses and social organisations to contribute feedback on proposed amendments to the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection.
The national launch ceremony for World Environment Day, World Oceans Day, the Month of Action for the Environment and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2026, along with a nationwide campaign encouraging public participation in environmental protection, will take place on June 6 and be broadcast nationwide.
