Nghe An police bust human trafficking ring, rescue 13 victims

Police in the central province of Nghe An have successfully dismantled a major human trafficking ring, arresting three suspects and rescuing 13 victims who had been lured with false promises of lucrative employment.

The provincial police said on September 15 that the suspects, identified as Vi Thi Lan (31, from Ha Tinh province), Lo Thi Vuong (32, from Nghe An province), and Lo Thi Nham (21, from Hai Phong city), were accused of deceiving victims into working for scam companies in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.

Investigators said Lan, who had previously worked abroad, developed contacts with individuals across the border who were seeking Vietnamese labour for fraudulent businesses. She colluded with her relative Vuong to set up a trafficking network. Exploiting the common lure of “easy jobs with high salaries”, they recruited and sold 13 victims from rural western communes of Nghe An to companies operating scams in the Golden Triangle.

Notably, Nham herself was initially a victim trafficked by Lan and Vuong. However, she later became actively involved in the criminal scheme, helping to deceive and traffic additional victims.

After months of surveillance and professional measures, police determined that the three suspects had returned to Vietnam in mid-September. Coordinated task forces were then deployed simultaneously in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Hai Phong. All the three suspects were arrested, and 13 victims were successfully rescued.

The police are continuing the investigation.
