Newly trained lifeguards help keep swimmers safe

VOV.VN - A squad of 16 newly trained lifeguards by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) will help make Danang and Hoi An resort beaches much safer, say local resort owners.

David Field, an aquatics teacher at SLSA with over 35 years of experience and an international lifeguard instructor trainer, said the lifeguards had been through intensive training on lifesaving skills.

He would like to broaden the course to train more lifeguards to work on beaches throughout Vietnam.

“I just feel bringing this type of program to Vietnam is a great way for youth to walk away with a really tangible qualification that will be relevant in their world,” he said.

You just don’t see lifeguards in Vietnam like you do in other beach communities around the globe, said Mr Field. One of my goals would be to help that become more prevalent in the country.

The 16 lifeguards are now on patrol on beaches abutting of Danang and Hoi An resorts, having completed their training course.

Surf Life Saving is a unique Australian not-for-profit community organization that exists through community donations, fundraising, corporate sponsorship and government grants.

Since it was established in 1907, over 630,000 people have been rescued by surf lifesavers it trained.
