New dimension for the development of southern border provinces
Secretary-General of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) Rear Admiral Somkiat Pholprayoon believes that the "seamless development” strategy adopted by SBPAC will help tackle problems in the deep South on a sustainable basis.
Rear Admiral Somkiat explained that the seamless development strategy focuses on the implementation of the project called "Triangle of Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability.” The project seeks to develop model cities in Nong Chik district, Pattani province, Betong district, Yala province, and Su-ngai Kolok district, Narathiwat province.
Results and benefits of the model city development will be spread to various towns in the southern border provinces, as well. The seamless development strategy also emphasizes the implementation of five major economic development projects.
These projects involve 1) the strengthening of the local economy and community empowerment, 2) the promotion of community enterprises, 3) the development of the potential of start-ups and Smart SMEs, 4) the development of the Deep South Economic Corridor, linking with the model cities, and 5) comprehensive energy management.
As for comprehensive energy development, in the initial stage, each village will be encouraged to build a very small community power plant, which will generate income for the village from selling electricity.
Moreover, Rear Admiral Somkiat said that SBPAC has been supporting peacebuilding operations, carried out by the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward, through various projects, such as those involved with community empowerment at the subdistrict level, which will contribute to security in the deep South.
SBPAC has also improved its role as an integrated development center, working with relevant agencies in response to the needs of local people.
