New cold air wave to hit North, temperatures to drop sharply

VOV.VN - The northern region of Vietnam is poised to brace itself for a new wave of increased cold air that will cause temperatures to fall to between 11 and 16 degrees Celsius.

A new cold front is moving towards northern Vietnam and is expected to grip north-eastern localities on November 30 before sweeping across other localities in the northern and north-central regions, reported the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

It will turn cold and even very cold in the northern and north-central regions, especially in mountainous localities, as of November 30 evening, said national weather experts.

The new cold airwave will send temperatures falling to a low of 16 degrees Celsius in the plains and 11 degrees Celsius in the highlands.

Also according to the weather forecast of the hydro-meteorological centre, localities from Nghe An to Binh Dinh in the central region is expected to brace for a new spell of rain accompanied by thunderstorms from November 30 to December 3.

During the height of thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hailstones and strong winds, warmed weather experts.

The experts also warned about the possibility of severe flooding, flashfloods and landslides to occur in low-lying and mountainous areas.
