New cold air wave brings rain to northern region

VOV.VN - A new cold air wave is moving towards Vietnam and is expected to hit northern border localities early on January 10, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The cold spell accompanied by strong winds and rain will then move further inland to grip north-eastern, north-western and north-central region during the day, sending temperatures falling by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius.

Daytime temperatures are anticipated to tumble to 16-18 degrees Celsius in the plains, and 13-15 degrees Celsius in the highlands. Some localities in the mountainous area will probably record a low of below 10 degrees Celsius.

The cold spell will last for a couple of days, reported weather experts.

Another mild cold air wave is expected to strike Vietnam from January 21 to the end of the month. However, temperatures will probably not fall sharply.

According to weather experts, cold spells that may hit Vietnam in January 2024 will not be as strong as in the same period of previous years. The temperatures in January and February 2024 would be 1 - 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average during the same period in previous years.
